You now don’t have to wait for spring to grow food! Mushrooms can be grown indoors on a shelf, table or countertop as long as they are near a window. We change the variety of the mushrooms seasonally depending on the ideal growing conditions. We currently offer: blue oyster, pink oyster, and lion’s mane mushroom varieties.

Students learn about a rare life science, Mycology. The workshop and lesson plans provided to the educator follow provincial curriculum and developed by a qualified educator. Some curricular connections included are: simple data collection in Science, reading non-fiction information in Language Arts, and nutrition in Health Education.

Students will have access to conducting an edible experiment. It’s always exciting to see how fast mushrooms grow on a daily basis. Some harvests can grow overnight! Students who may not access to the knowledge of growing food can have that feeling when you harvest something that you grow.

Once set-up, the mushroom grow kit will need to be placed near a window (not directly) and misted with a spray bottle (included in kit) 3-5 times a day. It can depend on the time of year and environmental conditions in the classroom. We recommend having a “mushroom sitter” over the weekends and holidays.
